Why come to Counselling ?

I believe that many people come to therapy carrying stories that have never been fully heard. One of the deepest fears we can hold is that when we speak about our experiences, they will be denied, minimised, distorted, or misunderstood. When this happens, it can become difficult to trust our own feelings and experiences, let alone share them with someone else.

I offer a confidential space where your experiences can be spoken about openly and met with care, empathy, and respect. My role is not to define your truth, but to support you in exploring it, understanding it, and making sense of what it has meant for you.

Life can leave us carrying experiences that are painful, confusing, or difficult to make sense of. They can affect how we see ourselves, our relationships, and the world around us, leaving us feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure of how to move forward.

You do not need to prepare before coming to counselling or worry about finding the right words. Whether you arrive with a clear sense of what is troubling you or simply a feeling that something is not quite right, we can start there. Nothing is too much, too complicated, or too difficult to bring into the room.

''Working with Sid has been one of the best decisions I've made for myself. At a time when I was navigating some relationship challenges, she provided a space where I felt truly and completely heard and understood with deep empathy and recognition. Always gently helping me see things from a new perspective. Sessions always felt like a genuine partnership full of warmth. And now I feel I'm better equipped to face change with clarity and compassion, for others and for myself. And I'm able to communicate more authentically. I would wholeheartedly recommend Sid  to anyone looking for genuine, kind, caring support''  Former Counselling Client

Finding A Way Forward

Sometimes life can feel as though we are living beneath storm clouds, where things seem heavy, overwhelming, or difficult to see clearly. When those clouds have been with us for a long time, it can become difficult to imagine that things could ever feel different. In therapy, we can take time to sit together and gently explore those clouds. We can become curious about where they came from, what they mean to you, and how they may be connected to your experiences. As we begin to make sense of what has happened, we can often start to understand not only the experiences themselves, but also what was needed in those moments and what was not received.

Over time, things that once felt confusing or overwhelming can begin to feel clearer. Not because the past has changed, but because it has been given space to be explored, understood, and acknowledged.

Sometimes, as understanding grows, the clouds begin to part and moments of sunlight start to return. With that sunlight can come greater clarity, a deeper understanding of yourself, and a renewed sense of hope for the future.

For some people, life can leave them feeling as though they have lost themselves or lost their way. Therapy can provide the space to explore that experience, reconnect with yourself, and begin to find your way again.

I work with adults from all walks of life who may be carrying experiences that feel painful, confusing, overwhelming, or difficult to make sense of.

Many of the people I work with have spent a long time trying to cope on their own. Some have experienced difficult relationships, loss, trauma, abuse, betrayal, neglect, self-harm, or significant life changes that have left them questioning themselves or struggling to move forward.

I have a particular interest in supporting people who feel they have lost themselves or lost their way.
Sometimes this can happen following illness, bereavement, relationship difficulties, trauma, abuse, caring responsibilities, burnout, or life transitions. For others, it can arise from years of feeling unheard, misunderstood, or disconnected from their own needs and feelings.

I also work with people who find themselves questioning their experiences, doubting their feelings, or struggling to trust their own judgement. Often this can happen when experiences have been minimised, dismissed, misunderstood, or when important emotional needs have gone unmet.

For some people, self-harm may have become a way of coping with emotional pain, overwhelming feelings, or experiences that have felt difficult to express in other ways. I offer a compassionate, non-judgemental space where these experiences can be explored safely and at your own pace.

Together, we can create a space where your experiences can be explored with care, empathy, and respect. A space where you do not need to have all the answers, where there is no pressure to be anything other than yourself, and where your story can be heard without judgement.
Whatever has brought you to therapy, we can begin there.

About me

About Me

black top natural.PNG

Hi, I’m Sid Lawler

I am a qualified counsellor with a clinical background, offering a warm, supportive, and non-judgemental space where you can explore whatever is bringing you to therapy.

My work is rooted in a person-centred approach, which means I believe you are the expert on your own life and experiences. Alongside this, I may integrate Cognitive Behavioural Therapy techniques and other therapeutic approaches where appropriate, always tailoring therapy to your individual needs.

Before becoming a counsellor, I spent many years working in clinical and senior healthcare leadership roles. Throughout my career, I supported people through some of the most challenging periods of their lives. These experiences deepened my understanding of resilience, vulnerability, and the importance of compassionate human connection

Why This Work Matters To Me

There was a period in my own life when illness left me unable to work and disconnected from many of the things that had previously given me a sense of identity and purpose. Coming through that experience, I found myself questioning who I was, struggling with a loss of confidence, and trying to make sense of a version of myself that felt unfamiliar. With support, reflection and time, I gradually rebuilt a sense of self that felt authentic and grounded.

My own experiences, together with supporting people close to me through mental health difficulties and neurodivergence, have given me a deeper understanding of how differently we can experience life and the challenges it can bring. They have also reinforced for me the importance of being listened to without judgement, particularly at times when we may feel misunderstood, overwhelmed or unsure of ourselves.

Whilst every person’s journey is unique, I understand how difficult it can feel when life changes us in ways we never expected. I believe counselling can offer a space to pause, make sense of what is happening, and begin to reconnect with yourself.

At the heart of my work is a belief that every person deserves the opportunity to be heard, understood and accepted.

Why  Alyssum?

Alyssum flower is a symbol of peace, protection and gentle restoration. A reflection of what counselling can offer.

For centuries, Alyssum has been associated with peace, calm and restoring balance. While counselling doesn’t promise to erase life’s difficulties, it can offer a space where peace gradually begins to return .Historically, Alyssum became a symbol of comfort and gentle restoration. That reflects how I see counselling, not about fixing people, but about creating the conditions where healing can unfold naturally.

In folklore, Alyssum was associated with protection, balance and harmony. Counselling can offer a similar sense of safety, a space where you can speak openly, explore your experiences and feel accepted without judgement. It can be an opportunity to reconnect with yourself, find greater balance and gently create more calm and harmony in your life.
